Our History

W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc., the oldest Funeral Home established in Greene County was founded in Athens, New York in 1840.

It was established by George C. Brady. George C. Brady who began operating the business on Second St. in Athens, New York. In this location the business served area residents for many years.

George was joined in serving
area residents of Greene County's river towns by his son William E. Brady and son in law Benjamin C. Whiting of Athens, New York.

The new century brought changes in 1911, the Lampman Undtertaking Co. of Coxsackie, New York was purchased by the Brady Family. William E. Brady decided to move to Coxsackie, New York to better serve the residents of this growing river town of Greene County. A location on Reed Street, Coxsackie, New York was established and operated for many years.

A new location was purchased in 1943 at the corner of Lafayette Ave and Mansion Street, Coxsackie, New York from it's previous residents the Bedell Family. The W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc. Funeral Home continues to operate from this location today.

As World War II ended a new generation of the Brady family took over the daily operation, as William E. Tremmel, William E. Brady's step son joined him in the business.

1969 saw the closing the closing of their Athens location and the consolidation of all of the W. C. Brady's Sons, Inc. business in their Coxsackie, New York location.

W.C. Brady's Sons, Inc. after four generation and 149 years of operation was sold in 1989. The new owners Vincent J. Valenti and Richard Vigilo purchased the business from Mr. Tremmel to continue serving the residents in a way only a independently owned funeral home can provide, with the caring and compassion from knowing the town of Coxsackie and its families.
